I have been on a personal journey of growth and recovery for the past fifteen years, and to live by my highest values for me means to share what I have learnt with others who experience suffering and a sense of disconnect within their lives and bodies, in whatever form.
From childhood onwards I used certain foods to comfort myself through the challenges of bullying from classmates and teachers, the failure of my parents’ relationship, and what I experienced as a general sense of ‘not fitting in’. My eating assumed more serious proportions when I left home in my late teens, from which time my weight fluctuated wildly, the binges interspersed with periods of rigid self-control.
My recovery began when I finally begun to be ready to receive the support and connection in my life I had needed all along. I was guided along the way by certain wise and kind individuals, who shared with me tools, teachings and processes I put into practice to help myself recover. I gradually learned to face and work with my addiction to certain foods and to overeating in general, as well as the underlying reasons for all my behaviours which were keeping me from growing and thriving in my life. My lifelong depression and anxiety lifted as my food problem and issues underlying it were resolved, and my creativity blossomed. I have been maintaining a healthy body weight for the past six years and I enjoy sharing a life of intimacy, abundant energy and joy with my friends, family and husband to be.
I aim to share all the practices I have internalised and integrated that are keeping me vibrant, happy and healthy. My greatest joy is to find ways of making these methods accessible to all who may benefit, and I plan to spend the rest of this lifetime incorporating this aim into all that I do.
